Bran Castle (German Torzburg, Hungarian Torcsvar) is a historic and architectural monument, located in Step Bran-Rucar, 30 km from Brasov.

A document issued by King Louis I of Hungary (1342-1382) on 19 of November 1377 in Zvolen the Saxons of Brasov Seat (totaque communitas Saxonum Sedis Brassouiensis) the right to raise, according to promise, at the expense of their masters and a new city Stone Bran (promiserunt Novum castrum Tydrici building in stone to death). On this occasion, the king promises of Brasov that if you get Romanian Country "in our hands, then Customs will be moved from Rucar (Ruff Arbor) at Bran. The reference in the text document in 1377 on a "new city of stone", allows deduction that the fortification of stone, which was to be built on the site, was preceded by a reinforcement of the border earlier. This castle, probably wooden, will be closed by the Teutonic Knights between 1211-1225. It is attributed Theodorikus magistrates. In XIII century the territory was under the jurisdiction of the city Bran royal county of Alba Iulia.

In 1395 Sigismund of Luxembourg, German Emperor and King of Hungary, used Bran Castle as a strategic base for a trip in Romanian country, following which removed usurper prince Vlad, Mircea the Elder's rival, his vassal.

In 1407 Sigismund give Mircea rule Bran castle (not related field) and Bologa. Bran remains under the Romanian country until 1419.

Bran Castle in 1427 ownership passed from Brasov in the seat of tourists, which financed the work of strengthening and expansion. Bran Castle in 1498 was hired by the seat of Hungarian royalty Brasov.

In 1920, the Brasov Town Council donated the Bran Castle to Queen Marie of Romania, in gratitude for her contribution to the Greater Union of December 1, 1918. Queen arranged and bequeathed to her daughter, Princess Ileana, sister of King Charles II. After expulsion from the country the royal family in 1948, the Bran Castle became the property of the Romanian State, being abandoned and devastated. The castle was then reopened the public visits in 1956, was partly arranged as a museum of history and feudal art. In 1987 came the restoration, work largely completed in 1993.

Although he entered the tourism and folklore as Dracula's castle, it seems that Vlad never lived in the castle. However "legend appears to be stronger than reality ... here turnandu the Interview with the Vampire "[1], a film with this subject, as a direct allusion to the alleged vampire traits of Wallachian prince. Recently it was returned in kind by the Romanian State's Dominic von Habsburg and his two sisters, as the heirs of Princess Ileana. Owners have committed to for three years not to change the destination of the museum. Romania has undertaken the renovation and maintenance costs of the castle and has a pre-emptive for future acquisition of the castle.
